Lately I have found myself at a certain level of frustration. Frustration over the reality that it is becoming nearly impossible to believe anything at face value being passed along through modern media – especially on Facebook. This is not a rant, just telling you about how it is right now. Too many folks just push a mouse button and never check to see if what they are passing along is true first. It’s a lot of work, I know. To check on everything to see if it is true or not requires time and effort. Sometimes I find myself having to go down four or five layers to find out what really happened. Facts turn out to be opinions or perspectives, opinions and perspectives are embraced as absolute truth. And worse, many people insulate themselves so they only see, hear, and are aware of what reinforces their view.
It is hard to accept the truth when the lies are what you wanted to hear. And in this age of technology, if it were not for lies, Facebook would mainly have pictures of food, cats, dogs, and feel-good sayings. We must establish or regain our filters, and stop accepting the lies masquerading as truth, which are simply propaganda meant to influence our view of the world. People hate the president so anything negative about him is just accepted as true. People like Donald Trump so anything positive about him is accepted as true. People like free, so anything coming out of Bernie Sanders’ mouth is welcomed.
But even more frustrating, is to encounter Christians who are believing the cultural lies and passing them on. As people of the truth, there is something ugly about this, something degrading and disgraceful.
Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.”
Every once in a while one slips by me and I get caught passing on the wrong information, so I have to apologize and move on more determined to not make that mistake again. I get it. People need the truth, not the latest propaganda. People need to know the God of truth, don’t make it harder for them to see Him in your life because you are passing on lies. Let’s get about the business of truth. This nation will not be saved through politics. This nation will not be saved through a political ideology. We need, we all need God’s truth – and Jesus the embodiment of truth!
